I do also really like how clean the Default theme looks, but when you’re staring at Scrivener for long periods at a time, Dark Mode is much easier on your eyes – at least, that’s been my experience. When you change theme, you have to restart the application for your changes to take effect, so it does take a bit of time to go through all the themes and find one that you like. Unfortunately there’s no quick way to toggle between these.

It brings to Windows some of the key features for which many users have been waiting, even if they didn’t know it. Scrivener 3 comes with various themes, allowing you to style the user interface with different colours. Scrivener for Windows might be the baby of the Scrivener family, but it’s catching up to its big brother quickly (and, happily, making my book even more useful to Windows users). I’ve now got my manuscripts outputting just the way I want them, without having to do any subsequent tweaking in Word, which is fantastic. I’m especially happy about the fact I’ve now got a lot more control over how my manuscripts are compiled from Scrivener into Microsoft Word documents! 😁 Scrivener’s Compile feature is powerful and adaptable, but it also seems to be a stumbling block for many users.

What’s more, Windows users finally have access to pieces of functionality that Mac users have had for years. Note: This blog post pertains to upcoming features in Scrivener 3, which will be released on macOS later this year and will follow on Windows during early 2021. It looks a lot cleaner than Scrivener 1 (which was the last version – there was no Scrivener 2 for Windows). I’ve been doing a bit of writing using Scrivener 3, and – to cut a long story short – I think it’s great! Similarly, when you use quotes, they will be rendered as smart curling quotation marks.
Many templates generate front matter templates for you, so I’d recommend opening a few new projects using the templates Scrivener provides and checking them out.
Front matter goes in a separate folder outside the Manuscript folder. So, if you bold or italic text, they will appear as bold or italic. Front matter is anything that comes before the beginning of your story: a title page, copyright, table of contents, etc. So take a minute and go to Scrivener -> Preferences -> General -> Author Information.
Rich-text means your text is formatted in the manner youd expect from a word processor, such as word. As you click around your front matter, you will see certain items bracketed with <> These are your meta-data fields, meaning that you can actually fill in the information in your Preferences, and Scrivener will auto-fill that information for you as needed.After many delays (I believe it was originally scheduled for 2018!), Scrivener 3 for Windows was finally released on 23 March. Scriveners editor is a basic rich-text word processor.
